AI Safety for Seniors
Six plain-language sessions on recognizing what's real, what isn't, and how to use these tools yourself, safely, if you want to. Work through them here at your own pace.
The six sessions
- Session 1What AI Actually IsBefore spotting fakes, get comfortable with the real thing. We look at the AI already in your life — Siri, Alexa, search summaries, chatbots — and demystify how it comes up with an answer.
- Session 2The Voice on the Phone Might Not Be RealScammers can clone a loved one's voice from a few seconds of audio pulled off social media. We cover how the classic "grandchild in trouble" call has evolved, and how to verify who's really on the line.
- Session 3Seeing Isn't BelievingFake photos and videos are easier to make and harder to spot than ever. We practice looking for the small tells, and talk through where deepfakes show up most: fake celebrity endorsements, romance-scam profile photos, and doctored clips.
- Session 4The Message That Knows Your NameAI lets scammers write personalized, typo-free emails and texts at massive scale — no more "Dear Sir/Madam." We practice slowing down and checking before clicking, no matter how legitimate a message looks.
- Session 5Talking to Chatbots SafelyTools like ChatGPT, Alexa, and Google's AI can be genuinely useful — for recipes, letters, directions, even company. We practice using them well, including how to catch it when they simply make something up.
- Session 6Your Data, Your RulesEvery AI tool runs on data — often yours. We close the course by tightening privacy settings, agreeing on a family action plan, and building a personal "if something feels wrong" card to keep by the phone.
